Representation of Quasi-Measure by Henstock–Kurzweil Type Integral on a Compact-Zero Dimensional Metric Space

Abstract A derivation basis is introduced in a compact zero-dimensional metric space 𝑋. A Henstock–Kurzweil type integral with respect to this basis is defined and used to represent the so-called quasi-measure on 𝑋.

Properties of a Henstock type integral defined on a compact zero-dimensional metric space are studied. Theorems on integral representation of so-called quasi-measures, i.e., linear functionals on the space of “polynomials” defined on the space of the above mentioned type, are obtained.

Approaches to study yeast cell aging and death

2014

For millennia, yeast has been exploited to obtain fermentation products, such as foods and beverages. For c. 50 years, yeast has been an established model organism for basic and applied research, and more specifically, for c. 15 years, this unicellular organism has been applied to dissect molecular mechanisms of cell aging and programmed cell death. In this review, we present an overview of approaches to study cell aging and death in yeast, including lifespan assessments, calorie restriction, cell viability, survival, and death markers.

Influence of temperature on the calibration curves in IRMA for neuron specific enolase and its physicochemical interpretation

Abstract Background immunoradiometric assay (IRMA) is one of the principal methods used for the analytical determination of neuron specific enolase (NSE) concentration. We studied the influence of temperature on the calibration curves obtained by this method, and a physicochemical justification based on two theoretical models is proposed. Material and methods we used a commercially available RIA kit for NSE and a gamma counter. Data was analysed using Statistical software. On the interpretation of retrograde reaction textures in granulite facies rocks

Retrograde reaction textures, such as partial pseudomorphs, coronae and symplectic coronae are a relatively common feature of granulite facies rocks and represent evidence of change of mineral modes or assemblages. Thus, such reaction textures represent one of the more potentially useful indicators of retrograde P-T evolutions. However, the interpretation of such textures requires the simultaneous consideration of the formation of the texture itself in terms of the spatial relationships in a rock, and of the changes in P-T conditions that drove the development of the reaction texture. Prediction and Interpretation of Some Pharmacological Properties of Cephalosporins Using Molecular Connectivity

A method of molecular connectivity was used to study the pharmacological and antimicrobial properties of 34 cephalosporin antibiotics to verify its applicability to these parameters. By using Kier and Hall connectivity indices (Xi) as well as geometric indices (GIs), good correlation equations were obtained with a low number of variables. In some cases, such as the lethal dose for 50% of group (LD50) values and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values for Pseudomonas aeruginosa, better regression equations were obtained with the GIs alone, confirming their alternative nature with respect to Xi, indices.

An evolutionary approach to multi-objective scheduling of mixed model assembly lines

In this paper a multi-objective genetic algorithm for the scheduling of a mixed model assembly line is proposed, pursuing the line stop time minimisation together with the component usage smoothing. Specific features of the developed GA are step by step random selection of diversified crossover and mutation operators, population control for the substitution of duplicate chromosomes, and in-process updating of GA control parameters. Three different formulation of the fitness function were been tested with some distinct line configurations.

Weighted-average least squares (WALS): A survey

Model averaging has become a popular method of estimation, following increasing evidence that model selection and estimation should be treated as one joint procedure. Weighted-average least squares (WALS) is a recent model-average approach, which takes an intermediate position between frequentist and Bayesian methods, allows a credible treatment of ignorance, and is extremely fast to compute. We review the theory of WALS and discuss extensions and applications.
